Stout beer is a stronger version of porter beer. 'Stout' is therefore the English word for strong or powerful. Today the difference in strength between porter and stout is less clear than it used to be. Because there are many different types of stout beer, the alcohol percentage varies from 3% to 13%. The taste is heavy and can be quite bitter, or a bit sweeter. The characteristic color of stout beer is very dark.
